Artist insight:
"Between 1981 and 1985  was privileged to be allowed to draw Robert at his home in Deia most Wednesday mornings, when his wife Beryl was making her weekly shop to Palma. In this painting I wanted to do something which represented Robert Graves for what he was which was a poet and a visionary. My intention was to represent him reading his poetry in a classical setting. The painting is Robert being zapped by the moon, in turn the inspiration for this is that he wrote a lot about the moon and also he is staring at the corner of the plinth which is a symbolic link to his writings on Greek mythology. The corner points compositionally back up to the moon so you have this triangle linking all three."
